How do I create an Initiative on World Pulse?

Are you working on a project or initiative? Share it on World Pulse using an Initiative post. You will be able to share your goal and track your progress on your own Impact Dashboard.

If you have an idea or existing initiatives or campaign, you can share that on World Pulse as an "Initiative Post." This is different from a Story post in that you will set your goal and define who you are impacting with that goal. Then you will be able to share Initiative Updates that relate to that Initiative. With each update, you will watch your progress advance on the "Impact" tab of your World Pulse profile, where you will see your Impact Dashboard. You can use your Impact Dashboard to visualize and keep the World Pulse community up-to-date on the progress you’re making towards your social change goals.

How do I set up my Initiative?

1. Head over to your World Pulse profile

2. Click on the Share tab.

3. Once there, click on the “Initiative” option, and then click on “Next”.

This is where the creation of your Initiative starts! Please note that to get through all the Initiative components, you must click on “Next” every time until it’s time to publish it. Now, get ready to provide the following information:

    1. Initiative Title: What’s the name of your project? If you don’t yet have one, think of the main idea or main issue you want to tackle and main goal. For example, “Eradicating menstrual stigma through capacity building in Bamenda”.
    2. Describe your initiative: Tell us more about your changemaking project! Try to keep it brief (no more than 4 paragraphs!), but try to include a)the context (the problem you’re trying to solve or tackle), b) the why (why it’s important to tackle it), c) the what (what are you doing, what is your initiative about, what’s its goal), d) the how (how are you doing it, what activities are you will be undertaking; the challenges you might face and your needs). You can add links to other websites using the hyperlink function!
    3. Cover Photo: Although this is not mandatory, an initiative with a photo will go farther! If the photo isn’t yours, make sure you have the right permissions to share it. Think of something that illustrates your initiative or the issue you’re tackling. If you don’t yet have a photo that best illustrates your initiative, you can come back to add it later.
    4. Sensitive Content: Let us know if your initiative deals with sensitive content or issues that might be triggering for some. You’ll see this option during the Initiative creation process.
    5. Select your topics and tags: Tell us the topics/issues your initiative will be tackling. Additionally, the tags refer to more specific topics. For example, you can select “Health”, “Education” and “Human Rights” as topics, but if your initiative is about awareness raising sessions on menstruation and providing menstrual pads in schools, on Tags you can select “Menstrual Hygiene”. What are you seeking? The options you will find are: Encouragement, Connections, Feedback, Collaboration, Action, and Visibility. This will help us understand how we can best support you.
    6. Who are you impacting? Think about who are you are impacting! Be very specific! Think of the specific group of people you’ll  be impacting, the age group, where they’re based, etc. For example, “Young girls aged 12 -17 in public schools in Maharashtra, India”
    7. Where will your initiative take place: Let the World Pulse community know the country you’ll be implementing your initiative in. If it’s being implemented in several countries or even regions, you can select the “Global” option instead.
    8. Select the level of privacy for your initiative: If you want broader reach and visibility for your initiative, select “Public” for anyone –even outside the World Pulse community, to be able to access, see and share your Initiative. If you have safety and security concerns, we encourage you to select “Community Only” so that only World Pulse members can access and see your initiative.
    9. Impact Goal: This is the number of people you expect or wish to impact with your initiative. Be bold, but also realistic! Think of what is in your control and power. You might want to impact your whole country or the world, but your project might not be in the place where it will reach or impact the whole population.
If your initiative is still an idea and your information is not that specific, just share the issue you’re trying to tackle, why it’s important, where is this taking place or where your initiative will happen, who you want to impact and how you’d like to do it. Remember: make sure this is an initiative that is being implemented or yet to be implemented. If this is something you have already done, it must be something you’re willing to repeat, iterate or escalate.

IF you’re nOt yet ready to publish your initiative, you can save it as a Draft and come back to it any time.

Once you have completed your first Initiative, you will be awarded the badge of Changemaker!
