In the first meeting, we encourage Mentors and Mentees to introduce themselves, their work, and their goals and objectives for the next six months. This helps to establish the needs of the Mentee and a solid starting point for the Mentor.
Contrary to popular belief, the Mentor’s role is not to provide any technical expertise, resources, strategy, specific knowledge, or solutions.
What matters is that the Mentor is there for their Mentee in an empathetic way. This can be communicated by providing extra support and encouragement to continue doing the work that they’re doing, or to start a new project, initiative, organization or learning endeavor.
Anything beyond this type of support would be considered a bonus.
