World Pulse editors select stories based on a number of factors, including:

  • The power of the narrative
  • Relevance to global events and issues
  • How well the story has resonated with our community through engagement stats

Take a look at the Tips for Getting Started for ideas on the kinds of stories we select. You can also start by reading through previously published stories from our Featured Storytellers to see past works we've selected for Story Awards.

Want to hone your writing and storytelling skills before you post a story on World Pulse? You can take the 'Digital Storytelling' training on the Digital Empowerment Training Suite on World Pulse. In this module, you will learn the art of telling your story on World Pulse. The module covers topics such as building and articulating your story, sharing your story on World Pulse, responding to and receiving responses to your stories, encouraging others, and key ethical guidelines to storytelling.

Find out more about trainings here.

Please note that World Pulse editors work closely with Featured Storytellers to craft polished, powerful stories to reach a broad, global audience. That means that there's no pressure to have a perfectly polished story to be selected for an award: We are not looking for the stories that have the best grammar or spelling.

World Pulse aims to achieve diversity (including regional diversity) among the stories we highlight each month, so please remember that we can only award a maximum of 3 to 4 Featured Storytellers per month.

We value every submission on World Pulse, and you're reaching thousands and inspiring your community just by sharing your unique viewpoint!
